Ain't to Saint
Alexander was not sainted for his saintliness - it was for his military and political prowess. Tell us a tale* of transformation of mundane virtues elevated to the divine. (We meant "mundane" in the common sense; but heck, if you can work your magic contrasting the SCA sense of "mundane" with the divine, give it a shot!)

Rondeau: D'un Aultre Amer (Johannes Ockeghem) - Amelie d'Anjou, Jadwiga Krzyzanowska, & Aaron
Drummond
Recorded at Bardic Madness 2018 in Grey Gargoyles.

Rondeau
The Rondeau is a French poetic form dating back to the thirteenth century. The style used in the
example below is from 16th Century England. It consists of thirteen eight syllable lines and two
repeated four syllable refrains. These fifteen lines contain are broken into three stanzas and
contain only three rhymes.

Poets in this challenge can use a different version of the Rondeau form they choose. There are
several good examples provided on the Wikipedia page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rondeau_(forme_fixe).

Fabled Fundamentals
Another famously compressed form is the fable, a story in prose or verse that features animals, mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects or forces of nature which are given human qualities such as verbal communication, and that concludes in a moral. Choose any topic, but those whose moral is "Brevity is the soul of wit", will get extra appreciation from the Provost.

Period Piece: In Praise of Our Rulers - Amelie d'Ajou
Recorded at Bardic Madness 2021 in the ethereal realm.

Period Piece:
Perform a documentable work of music, song, story, poetry, or prose from among the many eras and
cultures explored by the SCA. Dig out those reference books, blow off the dust (try not to sneeze),
and discover what wonderful treasures are contained therein. Find something, be it silly or
sublime, and amaze us all. Give yourself bonus points if you follow the theme of the day.

Let Us Not Forget: Lament for King Richard Lionheart (Gaucelm Faidit) - Amelie d'Anjou
Recorded at Bardic Madness 2018 in Grey Gargoyles.

Let Us Not Forget
In honor of a figure from history, either Historical or Modern Middle Ages, create and perform a
piece (song, story, or poem) to remind us of them, their qualities, and/or the deeds they have done.
Or perhaps perform a work composed by an SCA bardic artist who has passed, yet their work lives on
in all who continue to carry it forward.

Lost in Venice
Pilgrimage: Lost in Venice - Amelie d'Anjou
Recorded at Bardic Madness 2018 in Grey Gargoyles.

Pilgrimage
We've all traveled distances to reach an event. Often encountering strange adventures along the way.
Whoever said that 'getting there is half the fun', likely remembered to pack the good road snacks,
map, and a compass. Two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights DO make a left. Tell us of a
journey - perhaps from an SCA experience, or of someone from period (or could have come from period
times); about going in an unintended direction, and the trials and tribulations encountered along
the way.

A Most 'Period' Poem
Recorded at Bardic Madness 2014 in Ravenslake

Six Words
Hemingway was challenged to come up with a short story in six words or less (his response: "For Sale: Baby shoes, never used"). We won't be so restrictive. Come up with a tale of 6 sentences, each sentence containing 6 words; or a poem or song of 6 lines, each line containing 6 words or metric units. Need a subject? Select one of our three honorees this day.

Raga on a Dilruba
Amelie playing her new dilruba. The music form is called a raga (spelled a variety of different
ways). The verses were written by Rosalind Jehanne, Brendan O Corraidhe, and Amelie. Robyyan was
handed a drum and asked to help with no idea of what he was going to be asked to accompany. He
pulls it off brilliantly and makes it look easy.

Maraha, Prince of [your country here]
Through a rather bizarre comma misadventure, our favorite itinerant storyteller Maraha - decidedly a
commoner and non-combatant - was recently mistaken for the Prince of the Midrealm (he now styles
himself "The Bard Formerly Known as Prince"). Tell us a tale* of an unlikely Royal (specifically
Maraha, if you like).
